For some days, Simona and I have been busy contacting as many friends as possible, and asking them for an act of generosity towards our sister-in-law:  "Laura Salafia".

You may wonder who he is; to understand this, I report some newspaper articles from last July 2010, when Laura was hit by a bullet when she left the university.

"Catania. Dante square. Laura Salafia, 34, is the original student of Sortino (Syracuse) injured yesterday, Thursday 1st July in front of the Faculty of Letters and Foreign Languages whose seat is inside a former monastery of the Benedictine monks. The victim's condition remains stable and serious. Laura was hit by a bullet that stuck in her cervical spine, causing injury to some vertebrae." 

“The patient's condition does not show particular variations and the vital signs remain stable. The slight sensory-motor improvements recorded in recent days are confirmed and are accompanied by a general respiratory condition that gives hope. " "We read it in the medical bulletin of the Garibaldi hospital on the conditions of Laura Salafia, the 34 year old university student injured by a stray bullet on July 1 in front of the headquarters of the faculty of Literature in Catania."

It was the first of July 2010, Laura had just taken an exam, one day like any other, upon leaving the university waiting for her there was a bullet that, hitting her in the neck, has made her completely still, until today. Terrible days followed, until on July 16 she was transferred to Montecatone (Imola), where she began a rehabilitation path still in progress.

Laura bears the signs of an absurd and unjust violence, her body seems lifeless but inside there is still Trust. Doctors consider her ready to go home: she will have to continue rehabilitation therapy and build a new way of life. He will need 24-hour assistance; his breathing is compromised, so he will need a ventilated breathing system, he will need a barrier-free home, he will need his affections.

Laura's lawyer has promoted an awareness initiative to create solidarity and hope around her: “Carmelo Peluso, student's legal counsel Laura Salafia, to the microphones of Livesicilia, launches an appeal to citizens and institutions for the subscription to support the return of the young woman from Catania to the city: “Laura would like to return to Catania, she has a great desire to live and everyone's support is needed.  She needs a barrier-free home and can be helped day and night by those who have to operate the machines that keep her alive.“.  The lawyer promoted the campaign “Aiutiamo Laura” which allows you to offer your contribution by means of a bank transfer to Laura Salafia, at the Banking Institute Monte dei Paschi di Siena, IBAN IT85F0103016918000001267714.
